PrintE-mail The Misconception of Tantric Massage

There are many misconceptions as regards the Tantric massage, and we feel duty-bound to offer an explanation as to what it really is.

Firstly, a literal definition: The word tantric comes from 'tantra', which means logic (or reason). 'Tantra' refers to the doing of something in a logical manner. Its complementary trait is the mantra (spiritual). Yandra refers to a combination of tantra and mantra, and this completes the set.

Secondly, the tantric massage is not a form of sexual service. It is neither, as many imagine it to be, a treatment exclusively devoted to 'correcting', or 'improving', or 'treating', one's sexual organs.

The Tantric massage is just one of many healing treatments in Ayurveda. Its distinguishing feature is how it specifically focuses on the stimulation of the marma (nerve points). Furthermore, the treatment is applicable to both men and women. (A rough analogy would compare a Tantric massage in ancient India to the duties of a modern gynecologist.)

Sadly, many people have come to acquire a sexually deviant impression of the treatment due to rampant and widespread abuse of the term. (It is not unlike the way the Kama Sutra itself has been confused for being an ancient compilation of obscenities, which certainly it is not.)

The Tantric massage is extremely effective in combating certain illnesses and debilitating physical conditions. It is widely recognized as being able to help women with poor menstruation and menopause discomfort, and those who face difficulties conceiving children. It can also help those with impeded sexual performance and mental depression. There are a few reasons for these problems, usually: blockages in the uterus, not sitting in the correct position during sexual intercourse, kidney and breathing problems, etc. The usual treatment one goes for involves many checkups, pills, medications and all of that sort. The tantric massage avoids all this and goes straight to the root of the problem – by handling the body itself, and that is why it is so effective.

There are some other things about the Tantric massage as well: It is a combination treatment; it is never used by itself, but rather, it will always be applied in combination with another treatment. (E.g. with Shiro Dhara, Sarwanga Dhara, etc.) The tantric massage is also used in detoxification.

A client can teach himself or herself the Tantric massage; it is something that can be done on your own.
